Hmong Women on Chicken Diet

Hmong women goes on a strict chicken diet during post partum for a maximum of 30 days. That means for breakfast, lunch and dinner... 3 meals a day, a hmong women must eat nothing but a special chicken soup and drink nothing but hot warm water. Its a common tradition in our culture to keep our body strong and healthy in the elderly years.

The soup contains a few pieces of chopped chickens, special herbs boiled in water, with steam rice on the side. You eat it on the first day you give labor and then 30 days after that. Its served hot from the stove. Its intended to eat the soup served hot.

The chicken soup helps neuturlize the body and skims down a women's weight after pregnancy.

Hey, its summer time. Good luck with that chicken diet. Especially for me. Argg! No cheating!

At the hospital, its known as the "Laotian diet." Basically, you boil pieces of chicken in water until the chicken is cooked. Add lemon grass, and minted leafy herbs... like the ones you see in the photo... An alternative would be "Egg Soup." Which is boiling the egg whites and yolk together, add salt and black pepper.

OMG it does help you loose weight! but it makes you go crazy for other food! I just had my baby 15 days ago.. and I sure am counting the days til I get to eat some GOOD FOOD! I have not cheated yet! Just think of it as being really rewarding after th 30 days!

This herb is to gain back your nutritional balance. Say when a women just delivered her baby and loses a lot of her fluids, resulting her having to consume chicken for 30 days.

One thing I would really like to reply to is that weightloss program fast is possible by the appropriate diet and exercise. An individual's size not only affects appearance, but also the overall quality of life. Self-esteem, depression, health risks, and also physical capabilities are affected in extra weight. It is possible to just make everything right and at the same time having a gain. In such a circumstance, a condition may be the offender. While a lot food instead of enough exercising are usually guilty, common medical conditions and trusted prescriptions might greatly add to size. Thx for your post here.

I never fully understood the concepts of the strict chicken diet. I know that the elders all say that it is for better health in the older yrs but even so this diet was created back home where there is not much veriaty of food and food education like in the US. I do believe that eating healthy and light is good but to only limit yourself to chicken, rice and warm water, I think it was due to the conditions and enviorment back home. Now that we are in the US, we have many option of healthy fruits and veggies. I just had my third child and everyday I look at my chicken bowl and ask myself, "Why does only Hmong people do this?" My husband is not Hmong. Does this mean that I don't need to do it? (I know my mom wouldn't agree) I follow through this diet for the respect of the culture and my mother but I still have questions...........
